The design of all the flags in Sibiu finished among top 12 out of 1400 participants in the international competition by the Design Den Haag foundation for a New Symbol for Europe. It is being printed in the shape of 2×3 meters and hung in den Haag 31 May to 6 June 2010. How exciting!
As the designer – who gathered the individual designs and designed the memorial – I’d like to thank the organisers, jury, the Bauhaus Kolleg, and the people in Sibiu who took part in 2007.
Pressreleases are here in English, and in Finnish – suomeksi, and in Romanian thanks to my friend Sandra.
They include fancy sentenses such as:
“Europe is a space of experience, not a mere administrative structure. Being European or becoming Europe is a process of learning by doing. The design I proposed is collective work and it could look different in other countries and times: Europe is constantly evolving and, therefore, hard to capture in a single design, identity or model.”
